7:00 Kickoffs
I've heard Vinton County is going to 7:00 kickoffs (from what used to be 7:30). Is this a thing that all schools are moving to? (I know TVC is)
Sucks for me driving from Columbus every Friday night. I was going to be pushing it to get there by 7:30.
Thoughts?

Right? I mean, I understand people don't want to be out until midnight, but I feel like that makes it more difficult for people to make it on time. Especially if your team is playing on the road. 7:30 just felt like the perfect time. Not too early. Not too late.Raider6309 wrote: Wed Aug 28, 2019 12:16 pm Waverly vs Athens is 7pm. Pretty stupid since most people work until 5 pm.

Re: 7:00 Kickoffs
I remember when kickoffs were at 8, and there were complaints when they were moving to 7:30. It was done then basically to allow newspapers to meet their deadlines for a Saturday morning edition.
Those deadlines keep moving earlier and earlier on Friday night...some as early as 9 pm. Then people complain that there's not a good recap in the Saturday morning paper and they have to wait until Sunday.
In this immediate area, I think the TVC has been the last holdouts to move to 7:00 kickoffs.

Every 7pm game is a disaster. Those schools always find the slowest ticket people of all time

Re: 7:00 Kickoffs
7:00 is NOT a TVC rule
It's up to each school in the league
They have the option
All Athens home games are 730 still

That's me being selfish, I'm sure there some logistics behind it with travel times.

I thought it was state rule to start at 7. Maybe not. Didn't all playoff games start at 7 last year?
Re: 7:00 Kickoffs
Many schools have been 7:00p.m. before this year... I didnt like it at first either but I guess you just make adjustments.
And I don’t think any of it has to do with newspapers.

Re: 7:00 Kickoffs
East Central Ohio League has had a 7:00 pm start for about a decade.
Muskingum Valley League went to a 7:00 pm start about 5 years ago.
I had heard the newspaper deadline used as a reason. I know some coaches pushed for it because a number of the coaching staff had to coach at the JV game at 10:00 am the next day. Bus leaving at 8:00ish most times. Gives coaches and kids a little more sleep.
There was one year many MVL schools pushed week 1 back to 8:00 due to a heat wave hitting the area. Maybe about 3 years ago.

Re: 7:00 Kickoffs
Living along the river, I remember back in the 60's -70's all Ohio high school games started at 8:00. West Virginia games always started @ 7:30. That gave everyone that worked days plenty of time to shower, grab a bite to eat and head out with plenty of time to get there whether it was home or away. I don't remember what year they moved them to 7:30 and now we've got a lot of 7 o'clocker's.

School officials, coaches and media like the move. It's hard for the average fan who gets off at 5 p.m., especially for road games.

Re: 7:00 Kickoffs
I personally miss the 8 pm kickoffs. As far as the 7, it doesn't affect me too badly but I feel for people who get off work at five and have to drive a ways to get to the game. I wishes for their sakes they'd at least move it back to 7:30.
