Old gallia county conference
Does any body have info from the old conference like with north gallia, southwestern, Kyger creek and all them? My grandfather was a coach at southwestern a longtime ago and my dad played at north gallia I would be interested to have info on those teams and conferences

Re: Old gallia county conference
Originally started out as Gallia County league then morphed into the SVAC until it disbanded.

Re: Old gallia county conference
That would have originally been the Gallia County League and later the SVAC (southern valley.....) it started in the 1920s and folded in 1992.
Original members
Cadmus, Centerville,Kyger Creek ,Hannan Trace ,Bidwell ,Rio Grande, Vinton making 7 schools.
In 1954 Coalton joined making 8 schools.
In 1961 Rio Grande consolidated into Gallia Academy, they were replaced by Eastern and Southern Meigs which made a 9 team league.
In 1962 Union Furnace joined becoming the 10th member.
In 1964 Coalton became part of Wellston taking the league back to 9 schools.
In 1965 Cadmus and Centerville became Southwestern and Bidwell and Vinton became North Gallia.
So starting in 1966 you have :
Southwestern, Kyger Creek, Hannan Trace, North Gallia, Eastern Meigs, Southern Meigs, and Union Furnace for 7 teams.
In 1971 Symmes Valley joins as the 8th member.
In 1973 Union Furnace becomes part of Logan dropping the league back to 7.
In 1978 Symmes Valley leaves to join the OVC Making a 6 team conference.
In 1984 Symmes Valley rejoins and Oak Hill joins to make 8 teams again.
In 1992 Symmes leaves again for the SOC 1 taking the league to 7 again.
In 1993 Hannan Trace, Kyger Creek and North Gallia form River Valley and Oak Hill moves to SOC 1. Leaving River Valley and the 2 Meigs school. River Valley Joined the SEOAL for a few years and Eastern and Southern are still in the TVC

Re: Old gallia county conference
Some of the info on the SVAC is incorrect.
1. I’m almost certain in the Gallia Co. League there would have been Cheshire, not Kyger Creek and Mercerville and not Hannan Trace.
2. I know these schools consolidated to form HT, KC NG and SW well before 1965. I’m thinking somewhere around 1957-1959. I’m certain it was 1961 at the latest.

Very well could be, I got it from Wikipedia and was on my phone trying to jump between tabs instead of looking at both at the same time. Also it indicated some schools had two different names.Raiderball wrote: Tue Nov 19, 2019 7:04 pm Some of the info on the SVAC is incorrect.

Re: Old gallia county conference
Logan was never part of this league.
Union Furnace (Starr-Washington HS) was a member. UF consolidated into Logan in the early ‘70s.
Logan is the only HS in Hocking County (hence Logan-Hocking School District).
Originally, the Hocking County League had:
Ilesboro
Haydenville
Gibisonville
Murray City (went to NY)
Carbon Hill (NY)
Rockbridge
Laurelville (went to Logan Elm)
Union Furnace
South Bloomingville
All this schools slowly closed and merged into each other. Furnace and Laurelville were the last two Hocking County schools outside of Logan. Laurelville was in the SVC and UF in the SVAC.
Laurelville and Furnace continued their basketball rivalry after joining the other leagues.
Logan never played the smaller Hocking County schools, but did host the county tournament for years.

SV joined sometime in the early 70’s. Left I think 78-79 school year (maybe to ovc) then rejoined sometime in the 80’s until the league folded.

Hey I know you’re family. My dad knows Frank. I probably played against your dad or maybe an uncle. Late 70’s.
I think I know who you are. Were you at Vinton E
Maybe a year or two? I was teaching out there early 2000’s.
I remember as a young kid going to Southwestern HS and watching some games at an independent basketball tournament. There were some darn good players and teams there. Some maybe from the Charleston area. Pretty sure you’re grandpa was running it. I know he was involved in athletics in the area and was really into the boxing.
