Athens host Philo at Joe Burrow Stadium on Friday night at 7pm.
This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
If attending, the cost to get in is $6 at the gate. All fans must have proof of a mask to enter in case the stadium reaches 50% of the capacity in which mask will be required by district policy.
The game can be heard on 970am/97.1fm WATH in Athens or online at https://www.wxtq.com/wath/. Pregame coverage begins at 6:30pm.
The Bulldogs are young and inexperienced, they have 24 freshmen on their roster.
Look for Athens to pass the ball. The defense did cause two Trimble turnovers and had a goal-line stop vs Trimble.
Key leaders:
QB - Landon Wheatley - the junior Qb played a backup role last season before replacing star QB Joey Moore who went down with season-ending injury moments into the Nelsonville game last year. His only start was the playoff game vs Western Brown.
WR - Alex Pero - The freshman showed out in the scrimmage and has put himself on the list. He recorded 2 catches for 26 yards to lead the team in receiving. He also recorded two tackles, an INT, and made a big hit to break up a pass.
On the defensive side of the ball, Athens was lead by returners in
RB/LB - Luke Brandes, the junior led the team in tackles with 5.
WR/DB - Brxton Springer - The senior recorded 3.5 tackles and recovered a fumble that was caused by Brandes.

I know nothing about them. I know they had a pretty good running back last year but I think he graduated. They play in a very tough league

Philo has a small senior class of about 9 kids and a large junior class of about 28. Usually well coached and are competitive with whoever they play. Yes the running back graduated. They have a senior that split time at rb and in the slot. He will do the same this year with a junior speedster doing the same. Line is smaller compared to years past but seem to do alright with the spread offense they run.Raider6309 wrote: Tue Aug 17, 2021 9:27 pm I know nothing about them. Defensively they have decent speed and fly around and get after it.
