What is a Jamboree? A Jamboree is a third preseason football contest. It is intended to be conducted during the scrimmage timeline and serve as a “dress rehearsal” for the upcoming regular-season game(s). In an ideal world, the game would be played in accordance with NFHS playing rules, i.e. four quarters, complete kicking game, regular clock rules and should involve all aspects of the football Friday Night experience. However, the competing schools have some flexibility to conduct the Jamboree in the most suitable format for their kids and communities. The host school may charge admission. Many schools hosting a Jamboree have included booster-sponsored chicken barbeques or pasta dinners. Many athletic departments involve their marching band and have band booster activities. It is anticipated that the Jamboree be more than just an athletic event.
Where does the participation fee go? Each school that participates in a Jamboree is required to pay $250 to the OHSAA which goes directly into the Catastrophic Insurance Fund. The OHSAA insures every junior and senior high athlete for a catastrophic injury. A catastrophic injury is one in which medical bills exceed $25,000. In past years injuries have occurred in football, baseball, swimming, and wrestling which ultimately involved quad and paraplegia. The OHSAA provided insurance has assisted the injured players and families with medical expenses, remodeling homes, education, and other rehabilitation measures. There is an annual insurance premium to the OHSAA that exceeds $600,000. OHSAA member schools pay no membership fee and no insurance fee.
How much has been raised? Jamborees began in 2009. Jamborees held previously have generated more than $70,000 each year toward the Catastrophic Insurance Fund.

Any insight?
I was not able to attend. I burned all my masks & forgot to pick one up. Lol
Any players stand out? How did each team look? Offense, defense, the lines?

Trimble looked good. A couple things to work on and they will be fine. The line I thought was more physical than Athens on both sides of the ball. Athens has things to work on, but they should be fine going into the season. Trimble's varsity and jv came to win. Both pretty good games imo.93Bulldog wrote: Fri Aug 13, 2021 10:46 pm Any insight?

The Bulldogs are young and inexperienced, they have 24 freshmen on their roster.
Trimble ran all over Athens for 164 yards and won every stat except for turnovers and
Look for Athens to try to pass the ball but the WR's are also young. The offense moved the ball well for most of it (passing), got into the red zone had had to go for it on 4th and 5 around the 20. Also had a long catch to put Athens at the 4 but only had 4 seconds left in the varsity portion and couldn't score. Probably if there was more time Athens would have scored. They also had two bad drives. The defense did cause two Trimble turnovers and had a goal-line stop vs Trimble. The run defense needs improvements and running the ball needs improvements as Athens only had one big run. Athens punted 3 times but no kickoffs or returns. the game was scoreless at the end of the first quarter. Athens finished 0/7 on 3rd down covn.
Key Leaders:
QB - Landon Wheatley - the junior Qb played a backup role last season before replacing star QB Joey Moore who went down with season-ending injury moments into the Nelsonville game last year. His only start was the playoff game vs Western Brown.
WR - Alex Pero - The freshman showed out in the scrimmage and has put himself on the list. He recorded 2 catches for 26 yards to lead the team in receiving. He also recorded two tackles, an INT, and made a big hit to break up a pass.
WR- Derrick Welsh- First time playing football, his height helps but doesn't have the speed after the catch so it was mostly caught and then he was tackled. He finished with 3 catches for 18 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, Athens was led by returners in
RB/LB - Luke Brandes, the junior led the team in tackles with 5.
WR/DB - Brxton Springer - The senior recorded 3.5 tackles and recovered a fumble that was caused by Brandes.

You left out Trimble dropped a wide open TD pass in the end zone. Also should have started on the 20 yard line after a punt but spotted the ball all the way back on the 25.Trimble played a lot of kids trying to sure up their subs.Real game would have been a running clock.

It's good that you have confidence. Hope that works well for you. But predicting a running clock when you could only muster 2 scores in a half just seems a bit silly. But one thing you Thimble fans have never had is a lack of confidence.Lakers23 wrote: Sun Aug 15, 2021 8:22 pm You left out Trimble dropped a wide open TD pass in the end zone. Also should have started on the 20 yard line after a punt but spotted the ball all the way back on the 25.Trimble played a lot of kids trying to sure up their subs.Real game would have been a running clock.

I heard if Athens didn't have 5 turnovers it would have been a whole different ballgame.MarauderMadness wrote: Mon Aug 16, 2021 10:19 amIt's good that you have confidence. This was a lot closer than I thought it would be but with all the turnovers it makes it tough to gauge how good or bad either team really is. I guess we'll have to wait until Friday to find anything significant out about either team.icanpickem wrote: Mon Aug 16, 2021 12:33 pmI heard if Athens didn't have 5 turnovers it would have been a whole different ballgame.MarauderMadness wrote: Mon Aug 16, 2021 10:19 amIt's good that you have confidence.
