Re: Week 2 Portsmouth (1-0) vs Portsmouth West (0-1)
The turnovers are not something you can really blame the coaches for, I guess unless you think they aren’t teaching them how to properly carry the football. Which if that’s the case, that would be concerning. In both of West’s losses this year I see West fans hating on the decisions of the coaches and putting the loss on them. In a close game like week 1 it is easier to say there could’ve been better decisions made, but last night it didn’t seem like it really mattered if you can’t hang on to the football. I think maybe expectations were being set a little too high this summer coming from the West side, competing for an SOC title doesn’t seem to really be in the cards right now. But things could change, next week they face Adena who is pretty down this year so they shouldn’t have much trouble.

West driving to score to open the game. Fumble. Probably 7 points as they were easily moving the ball on the ground
Fumble return for touchdown. Another gift 7 - 14 points
Fumble on their 1 ready to score. -7. —21 points
First and goal at 1. Stopped. Aided by BS aiding the runner penalty-7. 28 points
Interception returned for TD. -7. 35 points
Is that right? The defense gave up 20. You should win against this Portsmouth team when you give up 20. But you can’t have 4 bad turnovers
Add another 7 on to that defense. Bad call in the corner of the endzone when they said Carr was out. I seen the video, he got his left foot in.

Lol ,I will give portsmouth their respect ,, truth is this tea... Is better then they are being given credit for especially defense our offense has been putting up points for a few years but this year and off season was focused on defense one line play ,a couple kids has really stepped up ,coach Chad Hammonds came out of coaching retirement to help out with the defense and all them things are reaping the rewards of hard work.
Portsmouth has only gave up 10 points in two games while out scoring the opposition something like 47 to 6 or something like that .
All though the fumbles helps you cant put it all on that alone ive always been a believer of yiu fumble for a reason, you almost have help fumbling the football I mean how many fumbles happen just because you drop the ball with no contact?
West will have a good year still they lost a tough one last week by 1 point that game could have went either way.
I " with others" had this Trojan team winning 6 or 7 games this year,I never make predictions on here but told everyone I thought we would win by 2 scores, although the west running back was a huge concern sissel...sizzle? Sorry but that kid is a beast.
Good luck to west and go Trojans.......on to next week

He even fumbled once. I’ve never seen him fumble. Also there was a fumbled and lost Center/QB exchange. So that’s 4 lost fumbles and 1 pick 6. It’s like a plague
You can’t win games that way. Maybe they’ll see each other during the playoffs

You are right, turnovers aren't on the coaches. And good defenses force turnovers. For the first time in 20 years, Portsmouth might actually have a pretty darn good defense. But you can still look at other things and are ominous signs for the future. I really don't think SOC expectations were out of reach. We watched freshmen and sophomores compete hard last year. The transfers that left is hurting for sure. I just cannot think of any another reasons it looks like we are regressing, with more experience. To give a little bit of light, we could very well be 2-0. Against two really good teams. But that is what seperate good teams and championship teams. You pull the close ones out.MasterOfNone wrote: Sun Aug 29, 2021 10:08 am The turnovers are not something you can really blame the coaches for, I guess unless you think they aren’t teaching them how to properly carry the football. Very proud of the Trojans on their win over the Senators. The defense was outstanding, and if it stays that way, Portsmouth could have a special season. It's refreshing as a Trojan fan to be talking up the defense. The stop on 4th down at the half yard line was simply of matter of PHS winning the line of scrimmage. The defense also accounted for 2 TD's with the fumble return by Daryionne Bryant and the pick 6 by Reid Pendleton.
The offense played well, with 2 passing TD's by Drew Roe to Donovan Carr, and some very important runs by Roe to keep the clock running in the 4th quarter. The Trojans ate up almost 8 minutes on the clock and played keep away from the Senators. Amare Johnson ran hard like he always does, and Jaden Duncan made some good YAC.
The fumbles by West definitely hurt them no doubt, with at least one of them inside the Portsmouth 5 yard line, but on this night the Trojans were the better team.
Want to add that Northwest has a very nice facility. Adequate seating, good parking, good concession area. Their fieldhouse/all purpose building is huge.
GO TROJANS!!
