Burg started 2-3 last year, and ended up winning the SOC and being regional runner up. I don’t think burg fans are too concerned

If you’re going to make up games and wins, you can shoot higher than regional games. This may come as a surprise to an Ironton fan, but there’s this title called “state champion”. At least go big if you plan to make stuff up.
That's the game burg can't seem to get back to despite the elite coaching. I can't believe Raceland has all that superior talent. Crazy.

Raceland????? Burg didn't play Raceland last night. They played Russell. You didn't pay attention in school did you!!!

Probably need to check and see what powerhouse OVC team you play next!!!
Raceland blew Russell out.

Maybe overconfidence was a part of the problem for burg last night.

Based on the score vs Russell, it doesn't look like Burg is going to walk through the SOC.
Cmon man. Who in rhe SOC has come close to playing a Burg caliber schedule? Who do you think will be the competiton? West? Minford? Waverly? Why dont these 3 teams play the likes of Ironton, Jackson, Russell and that cincy team? Id be willing to bet these 3 teams would be 1-4 to start the season and probably 0-4. Dont let your hatred cloud reality. Btw, IM a lucaville guy and Ive been reading how the Burg is down for decades only to prove the naysayers wrong

Yeah and burg held Raceland offense scoreless in their scrimmage. Means nothing. Burg won. They now focus on Ashland

As to all the Raceland talk, they passed all over Russell. Five of their eight touchdowns were passing plays 14, 23, 33, 42, and 66yds. Other three touchdowns were from runs of 3, 27, and 68yds. Raceland had almost 300yds total passing in their game with Russell. Burg is not a passing team. So comparing teams with two different styles does not make sense. Burg overcame any negatives in the game last night and won. That’s all that really matters. Now onto Ashland and Go Burg!

Probably was overconfident...they’re high school kids. Felt like a letdown game was due after being up for Ironton and McNicholas. No disrespect to Russell, but after seeing what Raceland did to them, I guarantee some kids thought they could just show up last night and get the win. Didn’t happen that way but they still took care of business.

As for Raceland talk, Burg scrimmaged them and beat them. I’m not sure the point trying to be made here?*

I don’t think it was that as much as not really ready to play at their capability. Emotional week for the pirate students at school might have been a factor or they had two high intensity games in the previous two weeks. Either way, they got it done and move on.

Fair point. I would have thought all that superior coaching on the burg sideline I keep reading about in these threads would've had them locked in though.

Thee_Game is lost and confused. First, he claims Ironton beat HP last year, and now he has Burg losing to Raceland this year. LOL!!

LOL! If only I had a nickel for every time that prediction was made! Burg will be just fine in the SOC.

As an Ironton guy I have no idea why other Ironton posters invade Burg’s or any other teams’ threads. I would come over to congratulate them on the win, that’s it. I root for our side of the river any time we cross it. A win is a win, we should understand that after last night. We better focus on getting the best 11 players on the field in Ironton and starting stronger. Let’s worry less about whether Burg has a down night or not. A down night with a road win is a win. Congratulations Pirates and good luck next week.

Very classy post and spot on. Thank you.

Good luck to your Tigers until, and if, we meet again.

You sir are a F%$&ing idiot!!! Last time I checked not one coach for Burg plays during the game. Like any other HS in America, it usually takes a coaching staff a game or two to get players in the right position. It's obvious Burg is doing that now especially the QB position. Once they get it all figured out, Burg will be just fine and will continue to play Burg smash mouth football. Burg is now a run first team which they hadn't been for quite some time.

Also, Burg will be just fine come SOC play. bleeding red is just another crybaby that HOPES every year Burg stumbles. Not going to happen anytime soon.

Burg will be just fine and it isn’t a secret that they are the best coached team in scioto county, regardless of what anyone says.
They are grooming this Freshman QB who will be the starter the next 3 years and he will see more and more time this year, If not starting by mid season. This may be what they consider a down year, but make no mistake they will be very talented in the coming years.

And Ironton has not won a state title in any sport since 1989!

See, I can make random statements as well.
