Shawnee State University now is the New Owner of 23 acres from City of Portsmouth
Just saw where Spartan Stadium , Branch Rickey Park and 23 acres of land around these 2 icons in Portsmouth Ohio, is being transferred to Shawnee State from City of Portsmouth! Wow, It said Shawnee State plans on making them 1st class facilitys. To be used for a new softball stadium, all new updates to current stadiums, plus city of Portsmouth can use for youth, different outdoor events. Great news for both the city and college. This is better than tearing down these stadiums in future.

100%, are they going to allow Notre Dame to continue playing in there as well?Prime Time wrote: Fri Jul 26, 2024 7:42 pm Just saw where Spartan Stadium , Branch Rickey Park and 23 acres of land around these 2 icons in Portsmouth Ohio, is being transferred to Shawnee State from City of Portsmouth! Really think this is awesome for SSU & the city of Portsmouth. It’s going to take a lot of work, and a lot of money but the facilities down at Shawnee are well maintained, no reason they can’t get this area looking that way as well. I’m unsure on if they’ll continue to let ND play football there or not. I do know the plan at some point is to put turf down & replace the track, as well as fix up the locker rooms and restrooms. One would assume if they do indeed end up putting down turf and make those changes that the soccer teams would play there. One thing that’s for sure is I don’t see anymore semi pro games being held in there.
When Gerald Cadogan (AD) was asked if Football was in the future I liked that his answer wasn’t no. I think he can see the benefits of a football teams, but his response was they first need to focus on the 23 sports they currently have. Would be really cool to one day see Shawnee State playing football in Spartan Stadium.

Seems like this leading for football to be added at Shawnee. Maybe they gonna watch what happens at Rio Grande first though.PTrojan59 wrote: Fri Jul 26, 2024 11:59 pm Really think this is awesome for SSU & the city of Portsmouth. I also wonder what it means for Notre Dame going forward? Hope they can work a deal out to keep playing there. But the last few years, the bathroom and locker rooms have not been suitable for high school football games to be held there.*
