The WV Thunder Girls' 10U AAU team is currently looking for two players, primarily post players, to play on the 2008 spring/summer team. There are seven very talented girls who are committed to this team right now and we are looking for two more post players to complete the roster. Five girls on this team competed at the 10u age level last year and with the new (ADD) Age Determining Date they will be staying at the 10u age level this year. It looks like we will be playing out of Ohio this year in the State Tournament which is in West Chester for the 10U age in April.
We will play in approximately ten tournaments beginning in March and going through the Division I Nationals in Orlando in the middle of July. Most tournaments will be in the Cincinnati and Dayton areas, but we will also be playing in one or two tournaments in Tennessee around the Knoxville and/or Pigeon Forge areas. Currently, this team is practicing on Sundays in Huntington, WV but will possibly schedule some practices in the Jackson, OH area later.
To be eligible in this age group a girl must have a birthdate of July 1, 1996 - June 30, 1997. The AAU age levels will probably be adjusted next year by the National AAU Committee, but this is what it is for this year. By that, I mean that this 10U age team will probably bump up to play in the 12u age in 2009 season once everything is adjusted.
The WV Thunder AAU basketball program is a very strong organization at all age levels and compete nationally very well. Practices will be held twice a week once the season starts. If there is any interest in this for a young lady that you know, please call 304-733-2810 or 937-587-1776. Our season will get underway in about two months.
If you have a daughter that really loves to play the game and compete at the highest level possible, then this is a good opportunity for her.
Thanks!!

We are still looking for two quality players to complete our roster, preferably post players and preferably from Ohio, since that is where we are competing at, at the state level. The seven girls we have are very talented and we need two more quality players to fill out our roster. Our girls play a hard, full-court style of basketball and with nine girls all will get quality minutes of game time.
The head coach of this team is Shannon Lewis who is the head girls coach at Huntington St. Joseph High School and does a tremendous job with that group of young ladies as they are the top-ranked team in West Virginia in "A" Division. He has a lot of coaching experience and will definitely help develop his players. Shannon really cares a lot about the girls and loves the game of basketball. He also is having work-outs on Sundays for 9u age girls as well, because he will be coaching a WV Thunder AAU team at this age too. Shannon has been involved with the WV Thunder organization for several years and this will be his fourth year working with this current team. As a 9u team his WV Thunder team finished 5th in the nation and then last year his 10u team finished in the top 16 in the nation in Orlando, Florida.
The assistant coach is Stan Doddridge who coached boys varsity for eight years and before that coached boys JV, Freshman, and Junior High for a total of seven years. The past three years he has coached girls AAU in Cincinnati with the Cincy Legend which won the Ohio AAU State Championship in 2006 at the 9u age level and competed at the Division I Nationals the last two years with the teams faring very well.

We are still in search to complete our 2008 AAU roster for the 10u WV Thunder. This will be a very strong, nationally competitive, AAU team and our season begins the weekend of March 14 - 16. For any girl who is very talented, enjoys playing against top-notch competition, and developing her skills then this may be worthwhile.
The main area of need is post players who are from Ohio. This team is currently practicing on Sundays in Huntington, WV. For more information, see the e-mails and phone numbers provided in previous posts. Thanks

With all the good 5th and 6th grade girls teams listed on various posts from several various locations in SE Ohio it would be great to see a few girls decide to try-out for the 10u WV Thunder team. For any girl born between July 1, 1996 and June 30, 1997 who wants to be involved in a top National AAU Organization then a good opportunity is there. Our current roster has players who live as far as an hour and 40 minutes in Ohio from Huntington, WV and a few others who are an hour away.
We are still looking for one or two girls who exhibit a tremendous desire to play at the highest level. Please contact the previous listed e-mails or phone numbers for information. Play will begin in less than a month.

Re: WV Thunder AAU 10u
The WV Thunder 10u AAU girls team is still looking for a player from Ohio, preferably a post player, to add to our 7 girls. We will still play in probably three more tournaments before the AAU 10u Nationals in Orlando, FL on July 12 - 20. This team won the Ohio 10u AAU State Championship back in April and will get the # 3 seed in the National Tournament. Our remaining tournaments will be in the Cincinnati area except for the Nationals. Practices are in Huntington, WV, Oak Hill, or South Webster.
Please contact one of the coaches listed on the previous posts. Thanks.
