Congrats to the Vikings and good luck against Chillicothe.

Captain Jack and Viked Man....Thank you for the kind words on the preview article. The Messenger covered the game itself. I'll talk to Coach Combs early next week about the Cavs.

I've waited 42 years for this first BB District title.

My thanks go out to Coach Combs, his staff and obviously the Vikings players.

The Seniors came up big in this one. Thanks Dut, Stewie and Andrew for a great, great effort. You all stood tall when it would have been so easy to cave in. Way to go guys. Proud of you.

Next up? Those Chillytown Cavs. Go for it guys and welcome to the Sweet 16 for the first time in VC history.

Congratulations to Vinton County on their first District Title. It was a heck of a ball game - neither team deserved to lose. I expectd to see much I what I've read, and the kudos to the kids & coaches at VC are well deserved. All the verbal back-slappin' & cheek-pullin' is a little over the top though. Someday you folks will be able take it all in stride. Someday.

Good luck against Chillicothe...

Congratulations to the Vikings on the first district championship in school history. VC dominated play underneath, with Guthrie having a big game. The Vikings also took better care of the ball than they did vs. Washington Court House, and I felt that was a big key to the game. Vinton County did not get rattled when McClain started with a big lead. Coach Matt Combs has done a very good job of bringing this program to the regional level. For Viking fans, it will be an exciting week coming up.

Still a very good season for the Tigers considering losing Dante Jackson from last year's squad. McClain returns 3 starters next season, so it will be more of the same for the Purple and Gold.......win most of their games, compete for the SCOL title, and be at the Convo once again.

Words cannot express how grateful the Viking nation is to our basketball team and the pride we feel towards each of the players and coaches. This success did not happen overnight but was/is a process that involves so many people. From Bob Grillo and his amazingly dedicated volunteers who work selflishly each Saturday to the Coaches who truly are genuine role models for our kids. The attitiudes of the players are not achieved by accident but by watching and learning by the example of the Coaches and volunteers. The memory of last nights game was truly priceless and seeing the fans line the streets of downtown McArthur at 11:30 with the Fire Dept. Mcarthur PD and Vinton County SO excort was well deserved. Enjoy the win today boys because the real work begins tomorrow to prepare for a good Chillicothe team tha t fully expects to come away with a win. GO VIKES !!
