Re: Wheelersburg 31 Minford 1
It wouldn't surprise me if Burg had more than 40 hits. Minford played poorly on both sides and made several mental mistakes. Burg could have easily had another 15-20 runs if they wanted, but Coach Estep began to hold runners on base in the top of the 2nd inning.

No it wasnt not in the top of the second, it was the top of the fourth.
In the top of the second Burg had the kid who went from 2nd to 3rd, occupied the bag, then was not called out (for the 3rd out of the inning) when he went back to 2nd. After that Burg scored I believe 6 runs on 2 outs and blew the game open. Big momentum change.

Minford will get back on track and as they travel to the great state of Tenn, just being closer to the Volunteers should give the Falcons a great boost. Good Luck as you represent our area, and have a safe trip down and back.

You know what is really scary about this score is how many of those balls would have been homeruns if they were playing in the Burg.
This game was basically over after the 2nd inning. Minford just seemed to throw in the towel after the 2nd and Burg just continued to hit.
Someone told me that they couldn't believe that Burg scored that many runs, why they kept scoring the runs and my comment to him is how do you tell the boys to quit hitting. You can't. They at least was only taking one base at a time on every ball that was hit regardless if it was a single or a ball hit to the wall.
bleeding red, as long as two runners don't occupy the same base at the same time, then he is able to return to the base he previoulsy occupied. Have you never seen a player on a hit and run play go around second base on a fly ball, but as long as when he comes back he steps on second base first, that is a legal play. He did occupy second base but then returned to first.

If two runners DO occupy the same base you tag the back runner because the first person is entitled to the base.

If you tag the front runner and not the back runner, is he not out? Or, is the runner you tag out?

You always tag the trailing runner because the front man has the rightful place on the base.

Here is what everybody needs to remember; the Burg only lost " 1 " starter off of this team from last year an most of them played summer ball for Post 23 an fall ball in Rio Grande( Sat ) an in Chilicothe on (Sun) an its paying off for them. Iam not from Wheelersburg an would love to see these young men win STATE !!!!!

I will be the first Minford fan to say that barring injuries or just a total mental meltdown, Burg should be able to make a run in the state tournament. With their depth an injury or two (and I hope that doesnt happen) should not change their chances, and I dont see them having a meltdown because they are a seasoned group of kids.
They have a good group of kids that have endless potential on the baseball field.

I understand what you're saying, but what happens IF the fielder tags the front runner? Is the front runner out? Is the back runner out?
