Re: New Logan High School Football Field and Bill Sauer Field
We're looking at fully renovating the pressbox. We need to get high-speed Internet in there and do all kinds of updates. Not sure if that will happen for this season, but it's on the menu.
We looked into putting in an entirely new pressbox, and started to gasp when the price tag was soaring to around $200K!

That's one thing I don't know about our pressbox, if it will be wi-fi capable. I will have to talk to Ron and find out.
Everyone is going to be sooner or later, so it would be a mistake if we haven't planned to do so.

91blue14,
You have a good point. Especially when school books cost so much these days

That would be a whole lot of books for the kids to have in the classroom for $10,000.
Just curious, is Logan's field and complex being paid by school tax funds or private funds? Looks like it will be a nice field.
I know Chillicothe is planning a renovation of our field, but the field itself will remain grass. I think Chillicothe's concentration for the moment will be on the kids education necessities, like books and hiring teachers. Everybody in Chilli is comfortable with the Hernstein as is right now. I hear in 2-3 years the plan is to up grade the bleachers on both sides and a new press box with re-done turf. Also new bleachers on both sides of the field and new turf laid down at the Soccer-Football Field on Mt. Logan Elementry grounds, for our teams that play on it too.
Looks like Chillicothe Hernstein, Ironton Tank and Vincent Warren Local's fields will be the only grass fields left in the SEOAL.

Can't wait in 2009 to see Logan's new stadium when our CAVS come to Logan.

Army-
When we passed the bond issue for the school, we also voted for a seperate issue to pay for athletic fields and for a theater since the state does not provide money for those things.
The school has raised some extra funds for the football stadium privately as well.

All of our stadium renovations are privately funded. And we still had critics.
Locos ... I don't know as you'd need "WiFi," per se, but having high-speed Internet would be very important. It is obvious to me that the new stadium there will be hosting more than a Week 11 playoff game (and probably soccer tournament games, too). The high-speed will be a blessing for the media of all types.

Of course, I go back to the days when a TRS-80 (or "Trash-80," as we called it) was HIGH TECH! Gotta love Texas Instruments! LOL
Anyway, we press on at Sulsberger -- www.sulsbergerstadium.com

Love the Blue endzones.
I really wanted to see us do purple endzones with purple sidelines (like DeSales has), but I think with the soccer field it wasn't going to be astetically (sp?) pleasing.
Good work. Hopefully we'll keep the Devils on the schedule in '09 (I'm assuming we will) and we'll get to come check it out first hand.

Aestheticly pleasing? ARGH! But please, don't remind me of DeSales' stadium. Double ARGH!
(I will admit, however, that it has been used as a "model" for some of the renovations we're doing here.)
I will grant that the purple probably wouldn't look as good with yellow (or orange) soccer lines. A little garish, perhaps. But that's one reason why we went with black for the soccer lines. It just doesn't clash.

Can I just say; I hate the yellow lines!
It looks great otherwise. The kids and fans deserve it.

Things are really flying this week as the main carpet is nearly fully installed, the markings are being cut in and the bases for the light poles are being prepared.

Field turf is looking great at both schools.
After doing a lot of research I think Lancaster is going to decide to keep a natural grass playing surface.
An important question to all schools getting the new turf, how will your school be paying to have it redone in 10-12 years. Every company we have talked to at Lancaster said the cost would be at least 60% of the initial installation. if the field cost $700,000 then ten years from now you would be paying $420,000 to replace it meaning your school or booster will have to save $42,000 a year in order to do this. If the school board budgets for it then great, but if they are expecting your booster group to foot the bill that is a large chunk of money to raise every year for just turf

ZanesVegas-I'm lovin the new field at Sulsberger!! The blue end zones kind of remind me of Boise State. Lookin very good. I can't wait to see it in person.
I took a drive by the new Chieftain Stadium this morning and I can report that the "soft spot" in the track has been fixed and the asphalt is in place. Also the tennis courts have a fresh coat of asphalt. The rubber for the track should be installed in a couple weeks. The base of the scoreboard posts have been encased in decorative bricks which looks real nice and while the scoreboard is not yet installed, I did see it sitting behind the stadium still in it's shipping crates. The scoreboard is in several pieces at the moment so it's hard to get a good feel for what it will look like. That's all I have to report for now.

Re: New Logan High School Football Field and Bill Sauer Field
I have a question for people who know or may know:
I was under the impression that the baseball fields and softball fields were going in on the south part of the complex where there is a current sink hole/pond and other parking lots. Are they still putting the fields in there or are they moving them? Thanks

Logan Grad-As far as I know the baseball fields are to be built between the "pond" and the highway on the southeast corner of the facility. To me, the pond looks to close to the road to squeeze a baseball field in but I'll check with my source this evening and get back to you.

schenk ... I've been updating our site all week. They're working through the weekend, and I may have more then, too. Dealing with running to Lancaster the last couple days and at least tomorrow for the Junior Legion tournament.

Something to consider, though, is that the installation cost is for everything -- not just the carpet. Our projections were not as high, but it IS a considerable amount to replace (and who knows what the cost of ANYTHING will be a decade from now!). But it's likely you wouldn't be redoing the drainage, for example, when the carpet needs to be replaced down the road.
We took this issue very seriously when we began developing our project. Ours is all privately funded, and our feeling was that we didn't want to do this major fund-raising effort today, and then go back in 10 or so years and starting beating on the same folks who had made such outstanding and faithful financial commitments in the first place -- as businesses or individuals. So our fund-raising plan also includes a contingency fund, which will remain active, and where we are going to squirrel away money and let it grow so that when it's time to replace our turf, we'll have the money -- or most of it, anyway -- already on hand.

The blue is truly BLUE. It looks great. What's even better now is the lettering and other things, which are WHITE, outlined in BLACK. The block-Z in the middle of the field is BLUE, outlined in WHITE, and then outlined in BLACK. It looks freakin' AWESOME!
We are pressing on toward completion. The field should be "playable" by the end of next week, Lord willin' and another daggone creek don't rise. The lights will be installed this week, too, and then we make way for the repaving of the track in preparation for its resurfacing. The scoreboard and sound system are due pretty soon, too.

Not a whole lot else has been finished since the last posting, at least stuff that I can capture on camera. The track should be layed very soon (the concrete base is in), and the scoreboard legs are up and the scoreboard is on site.
Once that's all done I'll be going down for some final photos.
