Post by boogerred »

What areyour thoughts on the A-11 offense?
And how long before they make it illegal?

I like it. Its pretty cool.
I give it a few years before talk of making it illegle starts up. If it takes off and every one starts working with it could be sooner.

I know a local team that was doing something alittle similar when it had to punt....would seem to be trouble for the defense.

the 5 interior linemen still cannot go downfield on a forward pass. That would be the key of the defense is to identify who is ineligible. Once you have that, that leaves you with 5 others that are eligible not counting who has the ball. I dont see how they can make this illegal.

Yes but the interior linemen have eligible numbers which can be confusing and the people playing line change every play.

I thought HS rules mandate 5 lineman numbers on the field. i know you can get away with it when it is a kicking situation but I cant see an official letting that fly on 1st and 10...

First and ten could be a kicking situation. There is no rule saying you can't punt or kick a field goal on first down.

That might be the only part of this offense I can see being overturned. Officials have a hard enough time as it is. If not, cant the defense ask who is eligible before every down?

Would not be surprise that if the offense takes off the number rules could be put back in that stated that the 5 linemen had to have numbers 50-79 like is was a few years ago on kicking situations. Teams use to have jerseys that they would put over eligible numbers for kicking situations. But untill that rule change comes back it could be interesting!

several years ago I was at Symmes valley watching them play Hannan (I believe). Hannan came out with players scattered all over the field. It looked similar to the A11. I also heard of a team that used to run an offense called the "Quail". I think it was Wahama. It sounded very similar. The biggest difference was the numbering I guess. Has anyone heard of the Quail?

What do you say to your defense when getting ready to play an A11 team? How would you begin to defend that formation?

I guess it would be like eleven on eleven basketball defense?

As for the quail, muddle huddle or polecat, they are all different because the end man on the LOS is the one that snaps the ball.

It would almost have to look a great deal like a basketball defense...

I just recently seen the A-11 offense on yahoo news an I tell you what it looks sweet you have a million different plays to do with a alot of people that is eligible to catch the ball you can't defend that at all, especially right now alot of teams would be spend maybe 10-15mins a practice an still not be prepared you never know whos going to do it, I think itd be cool seeing local high school teams doing it. It would make everything interesting.

Some states are already banning it. Rule 9-9-4 Travesty of the game.
