WK 1 Northwest @ East

Post by Kenraken Ahta »

Although the start of the 2008 season is a little over a month away, I think it is time to start talking about game one. Both of these teams with new head coaches, the Tartans coming off of a great season in 2007 and returning a ton of talent, and the Mohawks coming off of another disappointing season in 2007 and a man short. It means some good computer points for the Tartans, who have plenty of reasons to plan for the post season, but it will mean much more than that for the kids from McDermott. Lead by first year Head Coach Scott Thompson, expect the Mohawks to play above what lay in their past. Expect that this team will become more competitive, and do not be surprised by the heart with which they will play on the night of August 21st, 2008.

Do not allow the loss of Dunham to destroy you young Mohawks......instead, let it drive you. Play every snap like it is your last! In the end, we will not be judged by "wins and losses", but by how we "carried" ourselves in the face of adversity! Good Luck to both teams! Let's play football!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

from I have heard Northwest has a new kid playing this year that could be a fullback that is a nice lead blocker, if true then I could see them running things out of an I formation. I have heard that East may change their way of thinking on offense only time will tell. The best part about week 1 is East play thursday, then there are games friday, and who knows maybe Notre Dame plays saturday or someone does. Week 1 could be a nice three game weekend.

I know a few folx from Mohawk Land, & I believe they'll be playing in memory of Dunham & for his family. whether that translates to wins, I cannot tell, but I believe they'll be trying to the max every play. It would be nice to see the Mohawx have a good season after so many defeats.

Well if you are going to "get after" the Tartans this year, it will be important to get them early in the season. I think they will get better as the season goes on. As far as how well the Mohawks will play will be decided on a couple of things. One will be how well Coach Thompson can prepare them in a short period of time, and the other will be if the kids can focus themselves, their emotions and play one snap at a time and just not make mistakes. Solid, fundamental football has to take root in McDermott for this program to get better.

East is to strong, to fast and a great coaching staff! New head coach, new program and a new tradition! This team is shooting for another 15-0 season and they believe they can win playoff games now and expect to play and win in the playoffs! Coach Hall and the rest of his staff have the boys believing that a football season is 15 games long; not 10!

This season is truely a "Leave No Doubt" season! Cause their is nobody there to put that doubt in the heads!

Northwest has atleast two former East coaches on the staff there, but I still look for this to be a blow out and East come out on top. Look for some young kids to get playing time in the second half.

Wouldn't you have a 15-0 season before you can have another one? But thats beside the point. I still say northwest plays this one closer than most expect, and I wouldn't be suprised to see them take one from the tartans.

I really dont know what N'west has coming back but I doubt it will be enough to beat East at home. I'll say something like 28-0.

My bad Ironfalcon... I got carried away there a little bit! But, you could also look at this way; the Tartans have won 14 straight regular season games! And, 8 or 9 straight SOC I games.

If Northwest stays close and makes a game of it, or maybe even upset the Tartans, then maybe things are changing........if it is a blow out, I expect that it will just be another long season in McDermott. It has been so bad for so long from the bottom up, it will just take some time to fix it. I'd really like to see the Mohawks at least become competitive this season. A program like this one will not become a winning one over night. Gotta walk before you can run. Good Luck to both teams.

All things considered and looking at the "talent factor" the Tartans should be heavy favorites. Both teams have new coaches, the Mohawks with Coach Thompson in his first year as a varsity head coach and the veteran Larry Hall who has had a great deal of success over the years. Northwest needs to take the attitude they have "nothing to lose" and play with a "chip on their shoulder". This will be a good game for both teams early in the season to get a feel for where they are at. Northwest needs to be in this game late in the fourth quarter to get folks around the county to give them some respect. The Tartans need a convincing victory to help "punch their ticket" for the post season. Looking forward to see how this one turns out!

East must come and put this game away from the very start, whether kicking it off first or getting the ball. Especially with three all ohio players back.

The Tartans will be fired-up and jacked up for this game! And, I think everybody knows why too! It's no secret! Plus, it is big 1st level points for the playoffs! And, if... the Mohawks are as good as or determined as some say; then they should throw some 2nd level points out there as well!

Good Luck to the Mohawks all season; except Week 1.
