Things look good for the next 4-5 years, then it depends on the youth league after that. I know there are folks working away at that level. Hopefully it keeps moving. I would hate for it to go in the other direction again.

I was just thinking that Warren could potentially field an offense this year with nearly every player at or over 200 pounds. The linemen will all be over 200, and the backs, TE and WR will be too. Wolfe, Pritt, Ellenwood, Venham are all at or over 200. Depending on the set, there may be only 1 or 2 players UNDER 200 lbs. On defense 2-3 of the d-backs may be under 200, but that's it.

To 7072's point, 3 years ago Warren had only 1-2 starting linemen over 200 pounds, and they were just barely over. Things have improved since then for sure.

This year will show the progress. Finally, after so many years, I would match Warren's conditioning program to anyone's. The weight room is a mad-house 4 days a week. The kids are big and STRONG.

I exaggerated in my earlier post. Pritt is only 195 lbs. ;-).

Mr. Welsh is now officially on the staff I do believe. He will be working mostly with the offensive side of the ball. Someone also told me that the baseball coach was considering coaching. Could very well be a rumor, so please end it if you know of otherwise.

Mr. Welsh coaching at warren again..... why would they bring him back as an assistant coach if things didn't work out here for him a few years ago as the head coach?????

Coach Welsh actually did a good job with the team when he was head coach. I think it was 2001, and I'm pretty sure they went 4-6 and many of the losses were very close. It was the best season that Warren had put together this decade until last season. His non-renewal as the head coach was very, very controversial. It was a BoE decision made behind closed doors with little justification. Most of the personalities involved in that situation are gone now. He is part of the Warren Local community (he is a teacher at Warren High School and lives in the district with kids in the school system). He should be a part of the program, and has embraced the possibility of being an assistant. This season presents an opportunity for a bunch of Warren's "football" people to put the past in the past. I hope they do. We have a lot of good, knowledgeable folks that care about Warren football either working at the school or living in the district. If they can work together we'll have good coaching and leadership this year.

The players are ready.

Coach Welsh SHOULD be coaching at Warren...and I'm glad to hear that he is.

His departure in 2001 was a mistake, and seriously cost the program over the next five years.
He's a great football mind, and brings head-coaching experience, too (good plus).

His arrival strengthens a pretty good staff...this is all good progress.

What region/division are we in for next fall?

I copied this from the other thread:

DII, Region 7

Southeastern schools: Athens, Logan, Marietta & Warren

Logan is the only SE school in the top half of the region in terms of size. The bottom line is, this is a tough region for any of the SE schools (including Logan).

This list is sorted by school size.

Competition wise, possibly the toughest region in the state.

Depending where he is assigned. There is one coach on staff that does not care for him. Hope they can put the past behind them and work for the kids, that is the important element here. Also heard through the rumor mill that Pifer will retire by years end. May or may not have any truth to this, however. As we all know rumor and fact is often many miles apart.

7072: I agree, they should let the old stuff go away and get on with it. I hope they can.

I think Pifer does intend to retire soon. We'll see what happens.

I don't think Warren has a confirmed Jamboree opponent yet. The truth is, when they were terrible folks would have lined up to play the Warriors in a game like this. Now that they are getting better, it's not as easy for them to find someone to play.

The Jamboree game has been scheduled with Maysville for the July 22nd. It will be played at Maysville this year since it was our turn to visit them. The gate will be split, so it's a good deal for everyone. They are going to try to arrange to have the Jr. High and Freshman teams play too.

The other Warrior scrimmage is with Caldwell.

Warren is participating in the MOV Summer Passing League every Thursday in July, they have a home and away 7-on-7 scheduled with Wellston, and they are participating in the Nelsonville 7-on-7 Tournament.

Busy summer . . .

Lot's of good stuff happening!

Would be nice to have Bayles on staff, but without a teaching contract at WHS he should probably stay at Williamstown. They have the best coaching staff in the area, and he is a big part of it. Why leave green pastures for the less green ones at Warren.

Of course, if they find him a job, then all that changes.

Also, D2 R7
that is an insane division.
Warren can have a great season and won't make the playoffs. They will have to win at least 7 and get help to get in.

The potential for that many wins is there . . .

They just have to play the games and let the chips fall where they may. We all know that a winning season would be HUGE regardless of the playoff situation.

You can't build a winning program until you have a winning season. Here's hoping the Warriors can win 6+ in 2009. Also a win over Marietta would be outstanding. So close last year, time to start a new winning streak over the Orange and Black.

Can someone explain to me the Jamboree game? I know that it is at Maysville but what is so special about it? Why give it a name?
