The June date is canceled, the 7on7 passing league will only be in July.

Congrats to the Ohio players and coaches on the 24-0 shutout of West Virginia in the BACF game last night. Warren's coaching staff did a great job with the team. Warren's Ben Johnson played in the game early but got a stinger and wasn't able to go in the 2nd half. Kudos to Eschbaugh and Kerr for Marietta. Eschbaugh had a field goal and Kerr lead Ohio with 8 tackles.

It was very enjoyable and really got the football juices flowing.

Schenk11: Thanks for the word on the passing league.

Well, before you you know it, football will be here and I am looking forward to it. My daughter is dating one of the players, and he is working out a lot to be ready to kick some, (what is that word?), oh well, I'll think of it later. Let's go WARREN!!!!

I would put my money on Venham getting the bulk of the catches this year with Yocum right behind him. Arnold, Mason, Cowen, Rabourn, Windland should all be there to help out too. Don't count out Pritt and Wolfe to get their share out of the backfield either.

I've heard from a realible source that it's the same coaches as last year (Gribble, Pifer, Riffey, Ryan, Schaad, Smith, and Swick), plus Welsh. Great to see continuity in coaching for once................ :12223

Boilermaker is right the first one is June 26th @ Wellston at 6pm for grades 9-12 and the second one is @ Warren on July 22nd at 6pm again for 9-12, also there is a 7 on 7 Tournament slated to be at Nelsonville on July 11th with the time TBA.

Darknight,

I think you may not have your story straight. To my knowledge there is no teacher in the system who has coached freshman football for a while.

The Freshman have been integrated with the varsity for the last few years. I don't think Coach Pifer will be involved in the hiring of his coaching replacement since he'll likely be headed back to Ada if he retires. I think any transition that occurs will be smooth. It will not be at the last minute or a surprise like most of the transitions the last few times.

The players get real busy this week. Lifting M-W-F. Passing tonight and tomorrow. 7on7 defensive practice Thursday. Then, the first 7on7 with Wellston on Friday.

It's exciting to see things get started this early for change. The team is doing the things that are required to take another step (or three or four steps) forward this season.

Tommorow night @ 6 pm Wellston will unleash their new offense at home against Warren in a 7 on 7.
The Cross eyed triple tight spread'em out sawed off shotgun. I wont be there I'm leaving for Tenn. and taking Ralph Whittington with me so the Rockets will have to do without him.He likes a challenge so I'm sending him to Nashville to look for Elvis. If anyone can find him its Ralph. We will be leaving soon Ralph wants to run the first 200 miles. That should take about two hours if he dont slack on me .
The Rockets have also been working on their defense too. They will running a quilt cover4 with their D-backs. The D-line has been out to Lake Almer working on their swim moves, and some of them didnt even have to have their arm floaties.
Good luck tomorrow night Rockets !!!!!

Win, lose or draw, it's worth it to have these 7on7s just to get to read posts like that ^^^^.

Nicely done.

"I had heard pifer had considered giving the job to a really unqualified guy,. who'd been coaching the freshmen, and then changed his mind, even though that guy had a teaching job in the system, because that guy didnt really connect with his players or have much interest in the program itself

c'mon. pifers the coach. like it or not, stability does as much for warren football as anything

Darkknight,

You Haven't stated your "source" nor who you are discussing on here. I am sure the teacher would like to know who Mr. Pifer has been bad-mouthing in a public situaition. So the real story can come out.

Where do you guys dig up this crap? There was only one guy on the staff last year that was a teacher...Dave Schadd. He was the defensive coordinator. He was not a freshman coach. This year there will be at least two teachers on staff...Dave Schadd and Kevin Welsh.

Pifer is retiring from teaching/administering and coach this school year. NEXT year there will be a new football coach at Warren for obvious reasons, not because of strife or poor politics. It would be quite premature to discuss whether it will be a current staff member or someone from the outside. Unless one has been living under a rock, Warren has not hired a teacher in at least 6 or 7 years. Unless Warren hits the "Power Ball", there will not be a lot of places to hire a teacher/coach.

IMO, the coach MUST be a teacher in the system.

I honestly think you are right and I believe the person was just brought in this year. Kevin Welsh has been the head coach at warren in the past. Only for a year I believe but they did manage a 4-6 season and if I recall they beat south...which was a good rival game. I heard he got booted because of issues outside his control and that he was not "popular" with the A.D. and community. He has been the head coach at Eastern where, quite honestly, he just didn't have the talent to do great things. I have seen him coach and I love his style. He's calm but you can just feel a vibe around him and you know he is 100% business and is 100% committed to making his players the best. I thinkg he would be a great fit as the new head coach.
