Denver @ Cleveland - Thursday Night Football

Post by fuzzhead »

Cleveland starts out the week as a 3 point favorite against the Broncos. The over/under is 46 right now.
Denver has an explosive offense (374.0 ypg), but a terrible defense (387.9 ypg; 144.6 rush yds/gm; 27.6 ppg).
Cleveland's offense has shown it can pile up the points (last week and against the Giants) on occasion, but has struggled for most of the season. On defense, the Browns are only giving up an average of 20 points/game, but are giving up an average of 348.1 ypg (148.0 rush yds/gm).
In it's last two away games (v. New England and KC) - both losses - Denver has lost by an average score of about 37-10, while giving up an average of 387 yards in each.
Yeah, I know that a lot of you are probably expecting Cleveland to be a bit conservative on offense with Quinn starting, but the Broncos are giving up an average of 5.1 yards per rush, so I don't think it will matter.
Also, while Denver's offense is explosive, they are dead last in the NFL in turnover ratio (-11).

Prediction: Cleveland by 5 points or more, with more than 46 points being scored between the two....

This Harrison cat is a stud early on! Denver is showing just how they're giving up over 5 yards a carry this year...

Turnover leads to TD.... Denver's turnover ratio is pitiful.

Romeo makes first questionable desicion of the night: attempt a 52-yarder on 4th and short when your QB has completed 7 in a row? Fortunately, it pays off for the Browns and My prediction is well on its way! KNOCK ON WOOD.

Questionable decision #2 - go for it on 4th down up 10 with Denver's team dropping like flies.
Again, pays off.

Denver's not even trying to pretend to even think about running the ball. JUST PLAY THE PASS FOR GOODNESS SAKE!!!
If Cleveland can't defend this incredibly one-dimensional offense, they don't deserve to win.

Well I had to work late, driving home i listen to radio . they said Quinn did good .The browns def hasnt given up that many passing yards since 1980 against the vikings. Denver was out of running backs and just had a fullback and got over 100 yards. Quinn scored the points but def couldnt get the job done . I still dont think they will take no. 1 pick away from cinci.

Love seeing Denver dig down deep and pull out the win.

Bottom line: all they needed to do in the 2nd half was stop the pass. Denver ran the most one-dimensional offense I've seen all year in the 2nd half and Cleveland couldn't handle it.
Quinn did everything he could do besides play both sides of the ball and the Browns moved the ball almost at will for a good deal of the night on the Horrid with a capital "H" Bronco defense. They didn't give Quinn a chance to throw any long stuff and it cost them a chance to win at the end.
It's starting to look more and more like last year: good offense, abominable defense.
As for the Broncos: if that abomination of a team manages to eek out the AWFUL AFC West and gets into the playoffs ahead of teams like New England or Baltimore or Indianapolis, the NFL should consider changing its playoff format. They could finish with a losing record and win that division!

not a fan of either team, but i think Quinn played very well for making his first start, over 200yds, 2tds, no ints.
the defense just isn't getting it done, i think they should take a look a de'angelo hall who was released by the raiders to help out the secondary

Also: Cleveland should have had at least 2 more INTs. They dropped at least two that I saw. Denver's Turnover Margin should have been exploited, especially considering how many passes they threw!

Wow! That was the most pathetic defensive display I believe I have ever seen. No pass rush, no run defense, no pass defense, no tackling, no intelligence, no effort. NO MAS.

I'm gritting my teeth a little here in siding with a convicted felon but at least Jamal Lewis leaves it all on the field and he is calling out teamates for giving up when the game is on the line. Cribbs backs up his views but neither one will name palyers. Well, I will. Braylon Edwards needs to make the catches he should instead of the ones that show up on highlight reels. KWII just needs to catch the next plane out of town. What do these two have in common? First round busts. Like Gerald Warren, Tim Couch, William Green, Courtney Brown. Hey, anybody remember Mike Junkin? Browns just need to trade their first round picks every year for the best possible package they can get because otherwise they just blow it. I'll give Brady Quinn and Joe Thomas a pass because they haven't played long enough to disprove their worth. But Thomas isn't the force he was as a rookie. Take a look at this list:
1987 5 Mike Junkin LB Duke [17]
1988 21 Clifford Charlton LB Florida
1989 13 Eric Metcalf RB/WR Texas [18]
1990 No draft pick [19]
1991 2 Eric Turner DB UCLA
1992 9 Tommy Vardell FB/RB Stanford
1993 14 Steve Everitt C Michigan [20]
1994 9 Antonio Langham CB Alabama
29 Derrick Alexander WR Michigan [21]
1995 30 Craig Powell LB Ohio State [22]
1996 Suspended operations from 1996-1998
1997
1998
1999 1 Tim Couch QB Kentucky
2000 1 Courtney Brown DE Penn State
2001 3 Gerard Warren DT Florida
2002 16 William Green RB Boston College [23]
2003 21 Jeff Faine C Notre Dame
2004 6 Kellen Winslow II TE Miami (Florida) [24]
2005 3 Braylon Edwards WR Michigan
2006 13 Kamerion Wimbley LB Florida State [25]
2007 3 Joe Thomas OT Wisconsin [26]
22 Brady Quinn QB Notre Dame [27]
2008 No draft pick [27]
