I commented earlier on another topic about this and will repeat. If there was too many kids out for the team, then a coach has a right to cut someone they feel will not make an impact on the team. "or" If the kid was a discipline problem, then the coach has every right to cut him. "BUT" If they have room on their roster and the kid was not a discipline problem, then the coach is TOTALLY WRONG!!!!

I am a coach myself and am extremely competitive. I want to win as much as any coach, but I would NEVER cut a kid if I had room on my roster for them. I might tell the kid that I don't know how much playing time they would get, but if they want to be on the team GREAT! Be upfront with the kid! I would also tell the kid that things change during the season and if there was improvement in him then playing time would increase. I am a STRONG advocate for giving every kid a chance. I would never and have never caved to a parent. It is about giving kids a chance.

I think the parental situations that may go on in Green is a NON ISSUE! This is about morals and being fair to kids! This situation really has fired me up because I don't have any stake or don't even know any one from Green. (Actually I am not sure where Green is!) I just can't understand what a coach could be thinking in a situation like this!

You are a wise individual, slamdunk. Yours is the opinion of 99% of our community. IMHO, this has tarnished the rep of all individuals involved.

It doesn't matter if I have first hand information on the kids or not! Was there enough room on the roster for these kids? If so, then the coach is WRONG for cutting them PERIOD! With the exceptions I mentioned above!

slamdunk,

I couldn't of said it better. I know that student in question at Green would of had an opportunity if he was in Chillicothe, even as (Big of a School) as we are. We would of found room to insert him on the team. We take care of our kids here. As you can see above WITH THE EXAMPLE. One that is on the CAVS is disabled, missing a leg, but is very active in our Sports Programs. It doesn't make no sense at all, if there was room to add players to the Green Team, and instead there were cuts made. That's a no-brainer.

I hope the best for the Green situation to conclude with all parties coming together to make it work.

Good Luck!

I very seriously doubt that coach Kitchen posts on here- I'm sure there a few posters he wish would join him. Any news from the board meeting last night?

What is the purpose of this meeting? Is the coach in danger of losing his job or is it just a forum for people to voice their concerns over the situation?

From an outsider looking in, Green's BOE needs to stand behind the guy they hired, especially when the issue at hand involves a basketball decision. Who are they to tell the coach what players he has to choose for his squad? If that's the case, why even have a coach?*

I have a hypothetical situation for you guys.

Imagine you're a coach. You have 15 JV uniforms.

You have 15 kids come outf for the team, 12 kids who you think have the potential to contribute to your Varsity program some day and 3 who you have serious doubts if they can even compete at the JV level with a lot of individual instruction. Not to mention, at no point in their 3-4 years do you see them being a factor for your varsity team.

Do you keep all 15 kids knowing that for the next 1, 2 or maybe 3 three years a kid is going to be in your program, and hope and aspire to one day play Varsity whatever sport it is we're talking about, but you know that he or she will never play at that level? Then when he or she is a senior you are forced to either cut them or tell them, you can dress on the Varsity team but you will not play? If you do keep them, arent you impededing the developement of a younger player who could have used that valuable experience to become a contributor to your program later on?

The coach is in a lose / lose situation. He cuts the kid now and he is wrong. The kid sits or plays minimal JV time for a few years, never sniffs a varsity minute and when he is senior the coach cuts him (again he would be ridiculed) or he sits him on the bench and doesnt use that spot to develop a younger player who could later help his program.

There are only 3 types of Coaches..
1) Those who might be fired.
2) Those who have been fired.
3) Those who quit before being fired.

All Coaches are in a lose / lose situation. That is why you should do it your way. Good luck Coach

The board stated that they stand by the decision of the coach. It's his team, he has sole discression in who he sees fit to have on his squad. They also stated that although they were dissapointed that kids were cut in light of the lack of players on the teams, they saw no reason to doubt Kitchen as to why they were cut. A loud applause erupted from the throng of onlookers............ :122246 :122246 :122246

Then the show began. The father of the senior that was cut threw a temper tantram similar to a 2 year old being winged off his Binky. Bodies were being separated, dirty words spewed forth like a Def Comedy Jam special and fingers wagged everywhere. It would be funny if it wasn't so embarrasing. I just hope both sides learned something. No one really won.

Da*m, maybe I can get a job writing this drivvel for the PDT!!!!

I was there, and theren will be plenty in the paper, and YES, wsaz will be at the school tommorow.

the coach was wrong in what he did, and now the school board is wrong for backing him, this is not the end of it, and it will not get swept under the rug!!

this coach thinks he is above all others, there was NO REASON FOR ANY OF THE KIDS TO BE CUT!!

and everyone wonders why the program is going to hell in the furnace
