If he would have played for the reds, he would probably have had arm problems and 100 less wins.
Great pitcher. A great example to young pitchers on how to spot the ball and play your position. I believe Tom browning could have done something similar with the right team. 350 + wins for Maddux. You probably wont see any pitcher ever win 300 again.

Great points everyone. One thing not mentioned yet is his exceptional ability to field his position. Not many picked it like him on the hill, either. 18 Gold Gloves speaks volumes.

He was a class player, great role model and a first ballot HOF. Another complete package like him may not come again for a long time. I would want my son to emulate Greg Maddux.

2 years ago I heard Brennaman say that he had only went to a 3-0 count on a batter like 20 times, his whole career. That is simply mindboggling. Reds pitchers do it about 20 times a month, let alone a career.

the only thing that i ever heard to be considered a knock on him as well as former teammate tom glavine is they got a huge amount of strikes called that were 6 inches or more off the plate.

a lot of those pitches 6 inches off the plate were on the plate when they crossed, but his pitches had so much break to them that they didnt stay over the plate for very long....same thing applied for when he aimed for the corner, it would be getting to the plate on the edge then break of the table and go 1 1/2 feet outside

exceptional spot pitcher, possible the best ever at hitting a spot when he was in his prime. back in the mid 90's he was every batters fear....him and randy johnson, and oddly enough they have exact opposite pitching styles lol

Not true. Randy Johnson is at 295 right now.

Technically, he is. But teams will be calling him after he won 20 last year. I see him coming back.
