The Clay Panthers Boys-Girls
Re: The Clay Panthers Boys-Girls
Girls played at Bishop Flaget, boys at Eastern. Does anyone know the tournament pairings yet?

The 7th grade team seemed to muddle through the first half last night. Obviously coach was veeerrry upset with the boys play. Second half was more like the team I'm used to seeing. The 8th grade hung in for awhile, but Green had some ace shooters that ended it early second half for Clay. I give those boys credit, they have stuck it out in a tough situation. I also want to give coach Compton kudos for working with them, even though he seems to have lost a few more hairs! Ha Ha!

Clay 7th girls won a good, close game against Burg and will play Minford on Monday
Re: The Clay Panthers Boys-Girls
Congrats to the 7th grade girls, but what happened to the 8th graders? Why did they forfeit?
Re: The Clay Panthers Boys-Girls
BULL! If you have 5 players you can compete. There has to be more to this than that lame excuse. The 7th grade boys have had to play several times with barely enough to play, and still made a game of it, or won. A sad day for Clay sports.
Re: The Clay Panthers Boys-Girls
Sorry claygrad, and ignert1, I just don't handle forfeiting a tournament game after an entire season of hard work by the players, and coaches. I hope this never happens again.
Re: The Clay Panthers Boys-Girls
Who is the "they" that decided that "they" could not compete? Where were the parents? Isn't it their job to teach them right from wrong and that quitting is wrong. I know there is more to this situation than is being discussed.

that is what i'am talking about here at clay the parents don't push their kids. so the kids are not motivated. it's like oh'well.
losing is like a disease once you get used to losing you don't care if you win or lose. IT HAS TO CHANGE!

I am sooo proud of the 8th grade boys from Clay. The #8 seed Panthers came out ready to face #1 Wheelersburg, playing a smothering man to man defense, and a slicing and dicing offense that confused the Burg early. It was great to sit and watch the coaches from Wheelersburg sweat while the Panthers stayed right with them. After the first quarter it was Clay 11, Burg 10. I have to give Burg's coaches credit, they had speed to kill, and from the second quarter on, they relied on it. My friend and I counted 40 out of 54 points were fast break baskets. About 10 of those points were just not getting back, the rest were just blinding speed. Hold your heads high boys, and remember if you put your mind to it, you can do anything. Gooooooo Panthers!

Can you answer me this. No 24 for Clay was hot early in the game, hit I think 3 three's and 2 point basket, then has a turnover early in the 2nd qtr and then doesn't see the floor for about a 5 minute span. Why would they yank him when he was actually hitting some shots?
Re: The Clay Panthers Boys-Girls
I won't second guess a coach FaberGrad62, but it looked like all the boys got pulled after silly mistakes. I really don't have a problem with that cause this is Jr. high ball, and they are supposed to be preparing them for the next level. Also I think that Clay has a few boys with weight issues that the coach has been subbing for all year. I don't see anything wrong with the changes made in last nights game. Do you?

Re: The Clay Panthers Boys-Girls
I guess if he had a sub rotation, then no, but to just take a kid out, who was hitting everything he shot in, just because he had one turnover, then yes, I think that is wrong. Everyone is going to have mistakes, but let the kid have his fun and if he is not tired, then let him play.
Re: The Clay Panthers Boys-Girls
I think that IS the point. Clay has a few boys that have decent ball smarts, but not good ball bodies. Look, I didn't really go to the game last night thinking Clay would win, but wanted to see a good effort, and got more than I payed for. All I can say is don't turn this into a coach bashing thing cause these boys NEVER won before. I think coaches Compton, and Whitt pushed the boys to a new level of what they should expect, and they responded. They have coached the same all year, as far as I've seen, and I can't see anything wrong with it. It's called responsibility for your position, and I think it will help these boys in the future.

The Clay 8th grade girls did not compete at the county tournament. The 7th grade won a close game against Burg and then lost to Minford. They have some good players.
