Would not have it any other way (conference is too loaded)! The turn out in the weight room this winter is going to tell the tale of this Mohawk season early on. If the numbers are low in the weight room and the attitude is something less than positive, then it will be as you say...........1 or 2 wins. I think not though. The coaching staff is in place that can push this team to great things. You see Runner00, If You Don't Believe You Don't Belong. GO MOHAWKS!!

First off, i dont mean to bash my mcdermott neighbors, but you guys do NOT have a good team coming up. with that said, you have some great athletes and good players (such as the brown bros), but what's new? Northwest always has talent, they just never win. you might say "oh its because of the low numbers in the weight room" but thats because of a lack of determination and heart. therefore, i predict no change whatsoever in northwest's football success, no conference W's for the mohawks (indians are already on the warpath for u guys), and no out of conference victories. any SOC 1 team that northwest plays next year is going to dominate the field against them

oh yea, and kenraken, i have personally witnessed your powerlifting at the symmes valley bench & deadlift meet. unimpressive.
your light & midweights may have been working, but they are some of the weakest boys ive seen. all of your strength (scores) come from your big, heavy, thick, unlimited (255lb+) linemen who are too slow on the field to block any of their opponents.
Verdict: coach needs to be working on the line's speed and agility, beef up your skilled players or else you guys are GOING to be in for a rude awakening after all of your local hype and that only leads to another decade and a half at least of low-hanging mohawk heads

Appreciate your insight "ITD". Understandable to see how you could draw your conclusions. If it is all the same to you however, I think we'll play our schedule anyway, even though you have us "pegged" at 0-10 for 2009. This is a different football program than in years past. A different coaching staff and a new attitude for the game. GO MOHAWKS!!

I think Northwest record might not show how competitive they will be this year. IMO. I think they will be very competitive and give a few teams some trouble. Who knows? maybe they will have a suprising record as well. Good luck to Scott and the Mohawks!! Except week 3, sorry Scott.

Does the coaching staff return intact?

As far as I know, the staff will return intact. What I do know is, unlike years past, this coaching staff was willing to make changes in the offense or the defense from week to week, to make the team more competitive. That shows me there are no "egos" on this staff that need to be fed and that the program is about the kids and finding a way to be successful. I think this coaching staff realizes you have to build your team around your strength. Hey, as much as I like to see the football in the air, if I had an awesome offensive line and big/quick running backs, I'll wear you out running the football. Let the defense beat on you and go back to pounding the ball down the field. If I do not have those "horses", then I need to be more creative and get the most out of my talent. The Waverly game was a tough loss this past season. What was great though was the fact that the kids were in this game right to the end and could have very well have pulled it out. I do not expect this program to magically turn around with a conference championship and a trip tp the play-offs in 2009. What I do expect to happen is more of what came out of the Waverly game in 2008. And somewhere in their 2009 schedule, there lay waiting an upset that will change the attitude and course of this team for years to come. There is a ton of hard work for this Mohawk Football team to "put in" before anyone will take them seriously. Part of this will be up to the coaching staff to be around the kids in the off season and maybe even call some team meetings monthly during the next few months to talk football, check grades, see how things are in the class room and at home. The rest will be up to the kids. At some point, the kids will have to decide they are tired of being "a week off" for everyone on their schedule. I think the 2009 Mohawk Football Season will be the most important season in their 60 years of football. GO MOHAWKS!!

I have seen some harsh replies from a Valley fan on this thread. I beleive this is the type of attitude that has been at NW in the past. I think you have to start somewhere. So I commend the powerlifting team on their efforts. I hope that the community and administration support everything that the football staff are trying to put into place. I think even the connecting school districts will be very happy to see this program become competitive again. Good Luck to the Mohawks from a neighboring district.

Understandable how you came up with your mathematical equation. Thing of it is, that if this off season has not been about weight room and planning for the 2009 season and a change of attitude, then your "math" could very well be right. I will say this however, the season opener at home against the Tartans will "tell the tale". If the Mohawks lose this game, then you have indeed................"done the math". I believe the talent and size is there and the right coaching staff is in place. I believe Northwest can beat East in week one!! GO MOHAWKS!!

Kenraken,

Are you really going to let the whole 2009 season rest on the outcome of game 1? I'm sorry, but I believe you and the Northwest football team are in for a rude awakening. With that said, I suppose we will see when the game comes. Are the Mohawks and Tartans doing the thursday night game again?

But it all hinges on the weight room activity. You can have a talented group of coaches and players, but if they are not in that weight room in the winter months lifting with passion, then your season will be mediocre at best. GO MOHAWKS!!

If they are better than 3-7 then how come they only win 1 or no games each year??

NW will beat East this year by around 2-3 TDs.

ummm i doubt that very much.
Northwest needs to establish a offense and defense before you go saying they are going to beat a team by 2-3 td's
I think they will eventually turn aroung there program in a couple years!

I think NW just needs to workhard in the offseason and keep the number of skill players up. If the kids do not quit, and work hard with consistency(no taking days off here and there) then the Mohawks could be a respectable ballclub. Good Luck to NW in 2009, except when you find yourself lined up across from my Falcons.

The opener @ McDermott against the Tartans will "tell the tale" of the amount of work that was put into this program in the off season. Get thumped and get ready for another long season. Win this football game and everyone else on their schedule will stand up and take notice and maybe, just maybe, things will get better in McDermott in 2009. Good Luck to the Mohawks!
