2017 Wheelersburg Pirates
Re: what will Burg's 2017 schedule look like?
OHSAA needs to modify the Harbin Points System to include strength of schedule. In the current format you get points for beating the worst team in the state but nothing for loosing to the best team in 15 overtimes. Seems stupid to me
Re: what will Burg's 2017 schedule look like?
Maybe because the economy in these parts SUCKS to high heavens! In Irontons hayday, they were able to "attract," (cough, cough) talent from surrounding areas, because you could find a job to support your family and they had very good football. Now, Burg is in the same boat, they are relatively small district, with a decent economy and housing market and you get that same attraction! lolYOU'RE TIGER BAIT wrote: football in these parts ain't what it used to be.
Re: what will Burg's 2017 schedule look like?
Wheelersburg is a small district so everyone is a few minutes from the school. More kids can play. But they are also close enough to Portsmouth, Minford, Webster, Green, East that kids can easily transfer in. Geographically they are in a good spot. Property values may be high, but they're are no jobs there either.king kong wrote:Maybe because the economy in these parts SUCKS to high heavens! No jobs, but their proximity to Ashland, Huntington and other areas where their are white collar jobs is the first place most realtors push their high end customers to.
Re: what will Burg's 2017 schedule look like?
The economy and job loss absolutely plays a role, look no farther then Portsmouth at one point they were a DIII school and now sit within the DV ranks. Teams like East and Burg are perfectly situated to take in players from Portsmouth, South Webster not having football benefits both schools, Green being where they are allows for players to leave there as well, Clay and New Boston. Once the bypass gets built could see more Minford kids take off.

I've heard from several reasonable sources that the burg is in contact with canton central catholic for wk 3 next season. They also think that ironton will follow after next season

Wow you are a half empty instead of half full kind of person huh? I am sure glad that the Burg program and community does NOT have this kind of mindset... The Burg needs a stronger schedule early to improve their Talent and ability to go deeper in the playoffs. The SOC will not always be blowout games for the Burg.

Why would Ironton follow if they do I would fire the AD. This game is a money maker and the fans love the short travel.Mad-Dogg wrote:I've heard from several reasonable sources that the burg is in contact with canton central catholic for wk 3 next season. still don't understand why portsmouth would drop us from a financial standpoint its not a good move, what other team are they gonna pick up that would bring in the gate that a wheelersburg - portsmouth matchup does, as far as picking up ccc, thats a gauntlet them, watterson, and jackson all in a row. If you lose all 3 does your other 7 ovc and soc schools give you enough points to make the playoffs?

Good question. I don't think 7-3 will get u in the playoffs. It's close. But the other SOCII teams have to have good years to bring enough secondary points into your 4 conference games or your other 3 non-conference teams better win some games.Mad-Dogg wrote:Good question. You are now experiencing the should we play up to get ready for the playoffs versus the will we win enough games to make it! Lol. This is exactly what Portsmouth had to do, balance their schedule with teams that they can compete with, money isn't as big an issue as you think!stickem wrote:still don't understand why portsmouth would drop us from a financial standpoint its not a good move, what other team are they gonna pick up that would bring in the gate that a wheelersburg - portsmouth matchup does, as far as picking up ccc, thats a gauntlet them, watterson, and jackson all in a row. Of course you want Ptown to stay, you beat them plus they get 5-7 wins a year! Lol. What good does it do Portsmouth to lose year in and year out? Losing doesn't make your kids faster or stronger, it does help you see better speed, but if you are losing bad, it's not worth it.

Re: what will Burg's 2017 schedule look like?
You were the one whining about a tough 3 games (that they havent even scheduled yet) in a row that Burg might not be able to win, and hoping the other 7 games gets you enough points to still make the playoffs! That is the same boat every team is in, if anything, it sounds like to me from you whining that Burg has consistently under scheduled! lol

Re: what will Burg's 2017 schedule look like?
I wanted to see burg win.i really did. and I'm not going to be a party to dissing a team regardless of what their programs fans say of others and hope that is not expected of me, if that's the case you don't know me like you think.. entire fan bases are not based on a couple dozen er so of us posters from each team. it's an honor to play burg,a great facility, and a lot closer than Columbus or cincy. and we simply must get better to compete. even though they are not my intentions to run down burg. burg fans have to get thicker skin if the continue to run the rail on everybody else south of Columbus post wide, it's bound to happen with a loss.but not from me.

Wheelersburg is just so vastly talented, they should just go independent and try the following schedule. Easy first game for them. Challenging schedule overall. Should be no problem according to the blowhards on here. After a couple years maybe jump to the Big10 or right to the AFC North. They may be able to beat Cleveland right now.
1. Clinton Massie
2. Cincinnati Colerain
3. Mentor
4. Lakewood St. Edwards
5. Cleveland St. Ignatius
6. Maria Stein Marion Local
7. Coldwater
8. Akron St Vincent St Mary
9. Youngtown Cardinal Mooney
10 . Steubenville

Humorous, but officials in the Wheelersburg schools need to make a philosophy decision about their football program. Stay the big fish in the small pond of Southeast Ohio or venture out into the large pond of big boy Ohio high school football. Choose wisely for the benefit of the students and not for the benefit of fans and parents.Oak wrote:Wheelersburg is just so vastly talented, they should just go independent and try the following schedule.
