Why do we have "Coach" Swords running our weight lifting program, this guy has never played football, and from what I hear from my nephew, he runs his mouth about the Head coach ??

I dont agree with bad mouthing the coach in front of the players (if this is really happening). However you dont need to be a former football player to run weight lifting or have knowledge of the game. Coach Swords does a fine job coaching and supports the kids .from what i have seen

First of all say what you want about Coach Swords, but the man has done as much for West football as anyone in recent memory. He has helped build and maintain West's Pee-wee program, has made sure kids participate (this includes making sure they get to and from practice). In addition he has been a Christian role model, always encouraged kids to act in appropriate manner and do the right thing, and has worked his way up to the high school and did a good job with the freshmen and Junior Varsity level (now varsity). I would credit the turnaround in the behavior of West football to him as much as Triplett because Coach Swords had them when they were young and made sure they conducted themselves in a positive way. We need more people like him and Mike Bricker who love and have dedicated many years to West football and expected little in return. No, he never played football, but neither did Charlie Weis or Mike Leach and they have been successful. There are always exceptions to the rule. I'm pretty sure that Shaffer controls what goes into the weight program and is always there, but chooses to delegate a lot responsibility to his assistants which I believe is a good thing.

As far as Triplett taking over, I could see it but I don't think it will happen this year. I believe Shaffer is wanting to coach another year, but I also believe that he wouldn't care to step aside and let Trip take over again. Regardless of what happens, we are blessed to have two successful head coaches who both have years of experience and have won playoff games and league titles. I think I speak for the majority when I say that the West side does not want Triplett to go elsewhere, but if Shaffer is back for another year, I think we will be just fine.

I heard over the weekend that Triplett is coming back to West to be the head coach, any truth to that?

I was at the power lifting meet in CG this weekend and I talked to some of West kids. They said Triplett was back coaching them and has been in the weight room with them. Did South Point miss out on a chance for a good solid Coach. Good Luck to Coach Triplett and his staff this year.

According to 99.3 (however reliable they are), Shaffer will remain working for the school as a tutor, but not be part of the football program.

"Christian role model"?....wait a minute now, is P-West not a public school. If we are putting emphasis on religious role models then where is the Hindu role model, The native American role model, the Muslim role model, the Jewish role model for the school and football program? There are role models in all these religions, including Christiantity, but be careful about interjecting religious ideas into your public schools and their programs. :122245

I don't think he is trying to interject Christianity. He is simply stating that the coach, if he is a Christian, is one that will have good values and high moral.

All I was trying to state is that the man displays high morals and ethics when dealing with the players. To my knowledge he is in fact a Christian. Christianity is the majority religion in the United States and many of the "morals and ethics" that are placed into laws are based off of Christian teachings. Because of this correlation, I used the phrase "Christian role model." I wasn't implying he was preaching sermons to the players or pushing any religious view in a public school.

I know, I know just having some fun with the fans on the West side. Sometimes these blogs need a less seriousness and a little jocularity. But morals and ethics do come from places other than Christiantity.

For the most part those people are gone, but you know how it is people usually take what they have for granted. After these next year or the year after we will have a drop off in some certain positions like all schools usually do for a year or two. Im just hoping that when that the drop off comes (which it could be after this year also we lose a lot of linemen), I hope it doesn't end up like it was in 09 when went 6-4 with three returning starts and everyone wanted him fired.
