I remember the 94 game. NY had an awesome team that year and played a killer schedule and still finished 11-1 on the season and regional runner up.

I think it is great that Burg and Jackson are going to start playing each other. I also am glad to see the Ironton series continue. I would still like to see Ironton, Jackson, gallia, Portsmouth, Chillicothe in a Conference together. Adding the Burg would make it even better. I guy can dream....i am afraid that is all it is.

I would like to see wellston and especially vinton county off of the schedule. Playing them is a lose lose situation. If we win we get no points because they are a lower division and finish with 1-5 wins usually. If we lose it KILLS us with playoff points. I understand it's a rivalry and money maker, but look at this past year 9-1 and Jackson was a 5 seed? Ironton doesn't schedule to make money they schedule for playoffs. Same goes for other high powered playoff teams. I think too many schools around here are stuck on playing eachother that's why we (southern Ohio) get no respect come week 11. I'm not saying put a St. X or a complete power house, but playing an average 6 win D2 school would be great. I love the wellston rivalry and hate them just like every other jackson fan but looking at the big picture this game is pointless and completely in wellstons favor. I think this is why Jackson gallia and Logan are great teams but don't get the respect they deserve in the playoffs. Start playing bigger and better teams then you build a dynasty type program like ironton. And yes I am talking about runs at a state title, no it won't happen this year or the year after, but with time that's how you build a program like that. I get asked all the time why does ironton always make a run in the playoffs? Because they play a tough schedule and prepare for it. At the end of the season two things matter a league title and how well you do in the playoffs. Not beating your "rival"

Quite a few threads about All-Southeast District on the forum right now, but I figured this would be the best place to recognize the Ironmen who made the team since Jackson fans will be viewing this topic. Congrats to all these guys on a great season!

IronmenTradition,

I think we're in the minority, but I agree with you. I would really like to see Wellston and Vinton County replaced on Jackson's schedule. I understand that the Wellston game is a huge money maker for both schools, but I honestly believe that there are other games out there that could generate a lot of money for Jackson as well. One of those is Wheelersburg, which will begin in 2012, but it's not actually replacing Wellston. The Jackson-Wellston game is great for economic reasons, and because it's a rivalry that dates back nearly 100 years, but it's not in the best interest of the football program, in my opinion.

I'm not saying that Wellston can't compete with Jackson, because last season's result shows that to be false. However, Wellston has only beaten Jackson around 5 times in the last 40 years or so. Most years, Jackson is going to win that game, but when they do lose, it has the potential to be devastating. We're very lucky that this year's team had the mental toughness to rebound from that loss, win nine games, and bring the SEOAL title back to Jackson. I don't think that many groups could do that after such a tough loss in Week 1, and for that, the 2010 Ironmen deserve a HUGE amount of credit. The fact remains, though, that other than making money, that game is a basically a no-win situation for Jackson. Win and gain minimal computer points, plus get criticized for playing the game...lose and you get nothing, and the criticism of losing a game that you "should" win.

Anyway, switching the schedule up and challenging the kids with a different opponent would only benefit the program as a whole. I realize that travel costs are a concern, and football pays the athletic department's bills, and that all has to be taken into account. But when looking at improving the program, and building toward playoff success, the answer lies in improving the non-league schedule. Finances may prohibit that, and as I said, I completely understand that. But if it's possible for Jackson's athletic program to survive economically, while also increasing the schedule strength for the football program, I think it should definitely be done. Scheduling games like Ironton, St. Charles, and Wheelersburg is certainly a step in the right direction. Coach Hall and his staff are doing an outstanding job with our program and I'm sure that they will work in conjunction with the administration to build a schedule that will challenge our athletes and better the football program in the future.

since some of us are dreaming i would love to see Jackson, Gallia, and Ptown in the SOC or Burg, PWest, Minford, and Waverly in the SEOAL. Throw in Ironton, Chilli, or Valley for a nice little 8 team league. All one has is his dreams.....

Having family in Jackson, I seen several games from the jr high through varsity, and have read the post of QB's possibles. but im afraid for the next several years that spot may be Jackson's downfall, yes the 3 i seen listed are good athletes, one is a true tailback, one is what 5'4 130 pounds.... how in the world could u mention him as QB... now again good athlete, but you need someone that can see over that line.... 5'4 not an option sorry, now the third i didnt get to see much of, but again average size.... and from talk through the crowd doesnt want that position, isnt there one player 6' or taller that would fit or could be transformed?... and like i said just a guy here from outside the box looking in
