just my thoughts

I don't think that is how it will work out. If all the scary political adds that the Hugh Jidette supporters, I mean Obama/Strickland supporters put out about consolidation do come true, I think we will have one school in the county. But that is better anyway, since we will have a tried and true excuse to use if we lose any games. All we have to regurgitate is, "Yes we have D1 total numbers but we still only have the same number of boys playing football as an average D5 team does. Plus we offer a lot more sports than any other school in D1 so we should really be thought of as just a D5 team."NYBuckeye96 wrote:I don't know if Athens County would ever have just one high school, but there will be consolidations sooner rather than later. I don't think Athens County will have 5 school districts much longer. More like 3-4.
Or the one school would just kick @$$ and not have to worry about making exuses. Just a thought :122245Heavy D wrote:I don't think that is how it will work out. So I think one school is best so our county can join hands in using this excuse.
Agreed. First step: be like nelsonville and schedule tougher non-conference games!!!!!NY BUCKS wrote:OR the best cause WE ALL LEARN HOW TO WIN A PLAYOFF GAME.

All schools system must cut overhead and admin, and yes some teaching and coaching positions will go. The state can not continue to fund all these small school systems. Schools must be lean and mean!
I'm not saying that anyone will like it. Something has to be done though. Ny is the only school in the county that is growing BTW!King of Kings wrote:O & B,
You sound for sure thats a good thing. Now answer this honestly, what if one of those schools was NY that would get shut down? They are the 2nd smallest school in the county and according to some arguments the smallest schools should go first. If they do shut down they should close them all and open new schools with new colors, new names, new mascots and new district lines. Wipe the slates clean and start from scratch in every county.
I think whats going to happen is everyone is going to pay the same taxes in the county. They are not going to waste resources in the buildings. NY is building, Trimble just received a 600,000 grant to fix roofs and problems associated with OSFC. All the money comes in and gets sent to 5 different school districts. Those districts will share administration cost and resources. Each current district will elect one board member to represent the school board. Everyone will lose some of their identity, yet everyone will still have their own schools. There will be alot of upset districts. Athens, Alex, Ny will lose some money to Trimble, and Federal Hocking. Trimble and Federal will lose more of their identity than the other three because with those new funds there will always be mandates that are to be followed.
I don't know if it will work, but if they force consolidation. Then the only way to make it work fully is that there be no buckeyes, tomcats, lancers, spartans, or bulldogs and start over new. Now I ask again O&B are willing to give up the buckeyes and be part of the bigger picture?

They still get in fist fights when some one leaves the York off the end of their name for gosh sakes! People have been fired from local jobs for such blasphemy. Take the Sultan of Smack for instance. He is forced to do 10,000 Hail Mary's if he slips up and commits this mortal sin.
