2011 Freshman Classes
Re: players coming into high school any talent?
Even though Nd's Jr.high team wasnt very successful this season, they have 4 big upcoming freshman this year
C.J. Smith:talented skill player
Andy Bazler:power back, good blocking skills, can really give a hit
Charlie Eichenlaub:Built o and d lineman, great potential, big expectations
Evan Coriel:Another lineman, almost Eichenlaub's twin

Fairland should be good. The 8th grade won the ovc and the Jv team beat both Chesapeake and Coal Grove.

Regarding the previous two posts, two questions come to mind.
With that talent coming up at Fairland, will they underachieve again under this regime ? They were loaded this year & finished 4-6.
Who will be the coach at River Valley to take advantage of this talent ?

Re: players coming into high school any talent?
Its very hard for freshmen no matter how good they are to come in and have a big impact on things. It happens sometimes in the D6 and in D5 , but your still talking about 14 year old boys against 18 year olds, especially up front in the trenches. Another thing that a lot of people do not consider , how many times do you see a junior high team go undefeated in junior high and do not pan out on the varsity, or a JV team do the same? Junior High football is not the same game as even freshman football. The kids usually do not block really well, they just get in the way of defenders . They dont really even have to block. They cannot even begin to defend the pass very well. They do not key anything on defense .Usually one fast kid , a bigger boy or a kid a year or two older dominates the field, then everyone catches up and he is not so dominating. SWEEP, SWEEP AND HALFBACK PASS THROW DEEP. There is a lot of differences between junior high teams and 9th grade teams. I think the game changes and becomes more like the high school game. You have to block , defenses get more sophisticated and so do the offenses. JV teams are usually made up of kids that do not get much practice time and I would venture to say a 9th grade team that practices together is a lot more fundamentally sound than a most of the JV teams you see. Usually a JV game comes down to who screws up least because they are both continually screwing up.

Farquar,
Good points. I'm just curious about the Fairland & River Valley situations. The future for both could be bright, if quality coaches can get a hold of them.
