Gallia Academy @ Licking Heights
Gallia Academy @ Licking Heights
I believe this is the first meeting Between Gallia & L.H. Heights moved up to D-2 this year and suffered a first game loss to Watkins Mem. Heights was 7-3 last year and did not make the Playoffs.. This year they play a mostly D-5 & D-6 schedule... Gallia needs to put last week behind them and find someway to get the offense going. If Heights scouted us last week they know what to expect.. What's everybody think?????
Re: Gallia Academy @ Licking Heights
Friday's Dispatch in its high school preview had a few notes on Heights. I'll try and find it.

Re: Gallia Academy- 17, Licking Heights- 7 FINAL
Heights is tough, but a little inexperienced on O-line/D-line. They have fantastic skill positions, but I question how disciplined they are. I work at Heights and I know the coaches work hard, but I was shocked at the score vs. Watkins.... I thought it would be closer or Heights would win.

Re: Gallia Academy @ Licking Heights
I am sure LH's defensive game plan will be blitz, blitz, blitz. If we burn them they won't be able to send more bodies then we have bodies to block them. if we can't burn them its going to be another long night for the offense. We must contain there speed on defense.
Re: Gallia Academy @ Licking Heights
Hey Pappy1.... Is it safe to say that this away game for GAHS is like a home game for you???.....LOL Your right about the Blitz, we need to find someway to counteract it.....

Its not quite a home game, but will be my shortest drive of the year. I have seen multiple games at their school. They have a beautiful facility. I have wonderful memories of a jr high game there. I have a grandson that was tragically killed during his high school freshman year. In the eighth grade his team went to LH with both teams undefeated and playing for the jr hi league title. We came out on top that evening and looking for GAHS to come out on top Friday night.

Re: Gallia Academy @ Licking Heights
About Licking Heights
In Thursday’s Aug. 25 Columbus Dispatch, here’s what they had to say about Coach Darren Waters Hornets.
Waters is in his seventh year of coaching at the Pataskala school. His career record is 42-30. The Hornets were 7-3 last year, second in their division.
Friday’s grid matchup will be the first ever between the two schools.
Top players returning are running back, wing right, linebacker Ronnie Dawson, a 6-1, 235 junior; running back, linebacker A. J. Mitchell, 5-10, 200-pound junior; quarterback, defensive back David Cooper, 6-0, 180-pound senior; quarterback Darius Strickland, 6-6, 210-pound junior and offensive lineman Alex Mulcahy, a 6-6 355-pound senior.
The goods:
Licking Heights is perhaps the fastest team in the Cardinal Division, and they plan to use it. Depth is also an asset. The ball-hawking defense specializes pursuit.
The Hornets are lacking a bit in size and experience. Dawson recorded 100 tackles on defense last year and rushed for 580 yards and scored 11 touchdowns. He is a superb two-way player.
Cooper accounted for 11 touchdowns rushing and passing.

Re: Gallia Academy @ Licking Heights
All of the roads in Jottings directions still exist. If you don't want to deal with Friday evening traffic in Columbus, here is an alternate route.
Take rt 7 to rt 33
Take rt 33 to Lancaster, do not take the bypass, come into Lancaster on business rt
At rt 22 (Main st) turn right
Go about 4 blocks to the top of a hill and turn left on rt 37 (High st)
Take 37 to I70
Go east on I70 to rt 310, take 310 north towards Pataskala
Go to rt 40 which is approx a half mile and turn left
I am pretty sure it is 3 traffic lights to Mink st
Turn right and take it to the school
Mink can be a speed trap, when it says 35mph don't push it too much
I70 is interstate 70

Re: Gallia Academy @ Licking Heights
Great directions.... My sons getting married this weekend so I won't be making the trip.... Most people will probably avoid Columbus, following Pappy's directions the only holdup might be Nelsonville, but that is better that Columbus.... When my son played and we went on long trips I was always interested in knowing the places to eat at near the field.... Any recommendations on that Pappy???
Re: Gallia Academy @ Licking Heights
Capuano's Pizza in Pataskala is excellent although it will probably be packed on a Friday night.
I'd also recommend The Hickory House in Reynoldsburg on Main St. for a great steak.

Re: Gallia Academy @ Licking Heights
My family will probably have a large gathering at a mexican restaraunt off of 310 in a strip mall. From the directions I gave you would not turn at 310 and 40 but continue straight. After you pass Pataskala Nazarene church look to your left and you will see the strip mall. I don't remember the name of the restaraunt. If you would stop there or continue in 310 to Pataskala to eat, you will come to rt 16, most of the eateries are on 16. After eating you would just take 16 east. Mink would be at a light not too far beyond Pataskala. Just turn to the right/north at that light and take Mink to the school.
Re: Gallia Academy @ Licking Heights
Thanks, pappy 1. We'll probably take your route...Been up that way a few times to Lancaster. Hope to see you Friday night. Mike Brace and I will be making the trip. Mike does a good job taking photos of the game and I try to keep the stats for GAHS.

Re: Gallia Academy @ Licking Heights
Heights is by far the biggest school in the Cardinal and in the past have gone 9-1 and 8-2 and not sniffed the playoffs. I believe they're going to the Licking County League when it's reborn again next year. Gallipolis should win this one. Pappy's direction are good one's. Broad St. on a friday night is bad until long after rush hour both ways (east / west). It used to be all country but in the last 15 years it's exploded with strip malls, shopping centers, restaurants and traffic galore almost all the way from the east side of Columbus into Newark. Everyone have a safe trip.
Re: Gallia Academy @ Licking Heights
Driving directions for the brave at heart. (This is the way I will go from my home in SW Lancaster)
This will keep you from going in Lancaster and is the shortest/quickest way from Lancaster.
The first directions I posted keeps you on very well marked state or US routes.
Take rt 7 to 33
When you get near Lancaster go around on the bypass.
The first light you come to on 33 will be at Caroll, turn right at this light. (McDonalds on left at this intersection)
Almost immediatly there is a sweeping right curve, on this curve there is a street thats veers off to the left, take it.
In a couple of good stone throws you will come to a Tee, turn left.
This is Caroll Northern. Continue across rt 256 and keep going north. The name of the road will change to Doty here.
You will come to a stop sign at a Tee, its only a jog, take a left onto Stemen and almost immediatly turn right onto Saylor.
Go until this road Tee's at rt 204, take a right and go about a quarter mile to rt 310 and turn left
310 will take you over I70 and you come to rt 40
Turn left on 40 and go three lights to Mink and turn right/north
Take Mink to the school
Don't forget not to push the speed limit too much on Mink
If you go into Pataskala on 310 to eat, just take 16 east to Mink and turn right/North

Does radio station WBYG-99.5 still stream the GAHS games life on the Internet? When unable to attend I always try a listen to the game...

Re: Gallia Academy @ Licking Heights
Should be a great game. I am kinda torn on the outcome. I coached for Darren Waters in his second year at Licking Heights. I had to admire the discipline and caring he has for his players. I really wish I could make this game, should be a good one. Licking Heights will have speed, and they will be strong and tough. Darren has a good weight program up there. Plus I have a cousin that is playing for Licking Heights, Good Luck Blake!
GAHS I haven't seen in several years, but I still bleed blue, and wish both teams the best. Coach Eddy should have his boys hungry after a tough loss in week 1. This will be a physical game!
