Possible violations at OSU

Post by seofan_via_dublin »

Posting from my iPhone, so I can't get the link, but OSU is investigating actions by 4 players that may lead to suspensions.

4 players got tattoos and may have paid for them with autographs. This would be a violation and would lead to suspensions for the players involved.

It's not clear yet if they will be suspended for the bowl game, or if the punnishmemt will be handed down later.

Word is it involves TP and Boom.
But they haven't officially released names yet.

If it is true, then they need to be suspended! They are not Freshman and should have known better.

Maybe they can say that their Dad's brokered the deal for them and get away with it. Better yet, they could say that Cam Newton's father had some extra cash lying around and purchased the ink work as X-Mas presents.

crappy NCAA rule -- I would'nt think the punishment would fit the crime if thats all there is to the story.

ESPN just said they could payback the amount of the tattoos to be able to play,is that true? cause I remeber a player for USC earlier done something and simply repaid for whatever it was and was cleared.

LOL, If they become ineligible for the Sugar Bowl and OSU suffers another loss to the SEC, my vote would be YES!

The USC thing was for a 5 dollar equivalent ride across campus, and was an issue because the driver was a registered agent. The athlete paid the 5 dollars back.

I've shopped around for prices on tattoos for myself at the campus area shops. The artists there are phenomenal, but for what I'd consider a mid sized tattoo on my bicep your looking at $400+.

More details will come later, but this relatesore to the Troy Smith situation than the USC issue. If true, the kids were given several hundred dollars worth of benefits that they would have had to pay for if not for their status.

Sell your plasma you can make like 80 bucks a week or more doing that and if you sell other "Bodily fluids" you can make up to $500 a pop and that was back in the 90s when that research was done. So Im sure it has went up since then.

Since the shop is in trouble with the FBI anyway does not mean that they are telling the truth. If it is their word against the players. The autographs are not proof. Maybe their bad record keeping will not be able to prove it one way or another. They could prove that Cam did anything wrong yet.

If they prove it why not suspend they for a league game as what Tenn Basketball Coach Bruce Pearl gets for knowingly breaking rules. When Bruce knew at the time he was breaking the rules then lied about it. The NCAA is a joke on how they punish certain players/coaches and then not others.

On Mike and Mike this morning they bring up all the gifts that ALL PLAYERS WHO PLAY IN CERTAIN BOWLS GAMES GETS. Sometimes this collection of gifts maybe over $2,000 but that is legal for the NCAA.

Nut nation is gotta be a little worried this morning. It is just a shame that all the players who actually follow the rules get screwed by morons who think they are the cream of the crop..maybe even the leader of the team. These are allegations so we will see what plays out in the coming days. Can't say it would surprise me if TP did something so dumb though..great athlete..not so sure about his smarts.

Suspend them, better to take the punishment now then possible NCAA sanctions that could have them out for who knows how many games next year. Lose them for one bowl game so the can learn that breaking the rules(no matter how dumb the rules are) will be punished, you also suspend them for the bowl game to punish the team and to let them know that if anyone is doing something wrong and you know about it you better come foreward asap.

Agree.

If the players went to the ATM, and then paid in cash, the parlor could easily pocket the cash and not report it as income. They would then not have to pay taxes on the money. Since the IRS is the investigative body dealing with this parlor, they apparently are not straight forward with their assets and tax filings.

What would the parlor say once the autographs were seen by investigators and the investigator asks where they got such valuable items? They may say they were taken as consideration for tattoos. They would then have free assets and untaxed money.

Anyway, no one knows at this point, and there aren't even a variety of sources throwing barbs yet. So no use in being accusatory until someone more than the investigated parlor accuses. Plus, the parlor guys may not have even known such a claim could get the players in trouble.

Here is a post from Bill Greene about what he knows:

I think I have a good handle on this right now, after spending 24 hours on it..........

1- I do believe everyone involved will play in the bowl game.

2- There might be a punishment coming next year for some. (bc of the length of the investigation)

3- Ohio State will be forced to make a public statement in the next 24 hours.

4- I really don't think this is all that bad, but it's not going to sound pretty on ESPN or the USA TODAY. The PR hit could be pretty ugly.

5- Give OSU credit for their honesty. I believe this could have been buried, but to their credit, they didn't do that. Some player/players might have made what they thought was a minor poor choice, but it probably won't be perceived that way nationally. And if what I heard is true, they should be disciplined. Rules are rules.

6- This could dominate news coverage for the next month or so. Be prepared. The shame is that people like Tressel/Smith will have to answer for the mistakes of a few. But, it's their jobs.

ESPN is already laughing it off...... This was an undercover sting operation by the SEC so they can get some of the heat off them. LOL

Well, Bill Greene is saying that he was told by a player that the player will be suspended for 5 games next season. Sheesh. Five games.

These guys should have had dad pretend they were signing school-related documents and let the old man handle it all. Then they could never miss a game.

Ken Gordon Tweet:

NCAA release: Adams, Pryor, Posey, Herron & Thomas will sit out 1st 5 games of 2011 season for selling awards, etc

Expect these characters to go pro. The NCAA/OSU must have decided for next yr because it is a worse punishment. It ensures, if they stay, that OSU plays Michigan State without them instead of just the non-conference schedule.
